We are all individuals. Aren’t we No.573217? Who am I? We need to know and understand our own unique skills and values. So find out your career-life skills and career values. Career-Life Skills are the things I like doing, such as solving problems, taking advice, persisting, completing things, using my diary, respecting the rights of others, planning things, using my hands to build things, researching. Find out the things you like doing by specifically noting in your day to day tasks and activities what you like doing, such as in subjects at school, hobbies, interests and socially. Write them down and patterns will start to emerge as part of the process in defining career choices and options. Ask your friends, supervisors, managers, mentors, teachers…..they are a valuable source of information.

Equally important are your Career Values, which are beliefs, attitudes and judgments that you view as most important to you. Find out about the things you value that lead to:

  • Personal satisfaction and motivation, from creativity to attention to detail;

  • Feeling appreciated and rewarded, from public contact to advancement and;

  • A preferred life-style, from time and freedom to work under pressure.
