I am a big believer that it’s about the journey! Perhaps we need to define the word journey in career context. I will just sit here and whatever happens………….happens. Nah! Sounds to loose! I will try all these random things and hopefully they will tie into something I want to do down the track. Nah! Sounds to broad! I need to focus all my energies as I haven’t got all day! Sounds OK, I think! OK in that case as a comparison and I wanted to travel the world. I would run out to the airport, look at the departure board and pick a place to go to. Great I have picked a place. I am at the booking counter feeling so excited. “I would like to go to Italy”. Sorry valued customer, but that flight is fully booked! OK South Africa. Sorry all those flights are booked. UK? Booked! USA? All booked! Well what is available? I have a seat on Air Eraticar to Alaska? I hate the COLD! “Well perhaps you should of put some thought into your journey!’, says the Booking Officer. Ouch! I feel hurt though quickly come to the realisation that Booking Officer is right! All these places I wanted to go are destinations. Often we do little to understand who we are, where we want go and how we are going to get there! We all want different things out of our journey. So what do you want to get out of your journey? To get a ‘snap shot’ or ‘taster’ tour to find out what I like and don’t like? To fulfill your passion for history? To become absorbed in cultural experiences? To open my mind to what’s out there for me?
